In sleep they are alive, your heart swells glee
One by one, two by two, they crowd the scene
Eyes crinkle, laughter rules, fain to proceed
Awaken to the gleam, it is mere dream.
They visit only moments ‘tween the sun
It sets, and then too soon, it reappears.
Each time you sleep you cry will be the one
In time, ’tis years ‘tween those that you held dear.
You cannot live your life for those who’ve gone
Their mem’ry stays with you for all your days.
They slowly fade, their wit and soul and brawn.
Rare still becomes the time when their loves blaze.
This I know for sure of my dear lost friends.
I’ll have their heart until I meet my end.
